Subfields of Numismatics
Exonumia (Collecting "Almost" Coins)
This is the hobby of collecting coin-like items that aren't real money. Think about it:
Tokens you use at a gaming arcade or a car wash.
Medals you win at a sports competition.
Souvenir coins you buy at a museum or a tourist spot.
Casino chips.
Basically, if it looks and feels like a coin but you can't use it to buy things at a regular shop, it's part of Exonumia.
Notaphily (Collecting Paper Money)
Notaphily is the study and collection of paper money.
Have you ever seen an old ₹100 note that looks very different from the new ones?
Do you have a dollar bill or a note from another country that a relative gave you?
If you enjoy collecting and learning about these different banknotes from around the world and from different times in history, you're a notaphilist!
Scripophily (Collecting Pieces of Companies)
This is the hobby of collecting old stock and bond certificates.
Long before computers, if you owned a tiny part of a big company, they gave you a beautiful, official paper certificate to prove it. These certificates often had fancy designs and signatures. Scripophily is the fun of finding and collecting these historical documents that represent a piece of a company's history. It's like collecting financial art!
